Vat19 is an online shopping website founded by Jamie Salvatori and Jeremy Salvatori in 2000 (formerly Jumby Bay Studios). The company used to mainly focus on renting the studio to other production companies but switched to selling “curiously awesome products“ and making videos on their YouTube channel due to major success.

History[]

Vat19 was founded in 2000 under Jumby Bay Studios. The founders were Jamie Salvatori, and Jeremy Salvatori.[1] It was backed by Allan Salvatori. Jumby Bay Studios originally was a studio renter to other production companies, but it ended up not doing well. They decided to pivot the company to create their own videos.[2] It is unknown when Jeremy Salvatori left, but he eventually became a lawyer (not confirmed).

They soon created a DVD store under the name Vat 19 (notice the spacing). It is currently unknown why the company is known as "Vat19", since according to the "about"-page of the website, Jamie keeps it secret.[3] Though according to an old iteration of their site, it used to stand for "Videos And Things". But the 19 does not mean much since it sounded good. Around late 2006, they started selling other items which eventually became Vat19's main income, and Jumby Bay Studios ended up dissolving in 2010 when Vat19 fully took over the studio because of its success.[4][5]

Branding History[]

Vat19 changed its logo in 2003. The second logo kept the word Vat, but the 19 was put on a barrel. This is because a vat is also a container. Vat19 also changed its name, to the current name, Vat19. This marked Vat19's first era.

In 2005, Vat19 changed their name again, this time to Vat19 JBS (Jumby Bay Studios). This is also the beginning of the Vat19 JBS era. They also changed their logo to their current font, "Hobo".[6][7] However, the name-change was only temporary as it changed again in 2005, the beginning of the current 2nd era of Vat19. The logo was changed to one that was similar to the current one it has, but it had orange outlines and no grey text. They changed their logo once again in 2006, but this time just the logo was changed.

Original Products[]

There were originally only four products back in 2002. They were the following: dermist ($5.95)

  • Ten Best Boating-Tips ($8.95)
  • Shooting "sexy" Cinematography: The Mechanic of Light and Lens ($5.95)

They also had a preview-product (commercial). Unfortunately, these products are not for sale

The building was built by Allan Salvatori's company Innervision. It costed around 3 million dollars, and it was around 20,000 square feet. In 2000, Jumby Bay Studios took over the building and updated it with all state-of-the-art equipment. It was purpose-built facility is inherently better suited toward the needs of the discerning producer versus the typical "converted warehouse" production facility.[8] According to them, it is the largest soundstage in St. Louis.
